Add a New Page

Open department website

Enter the website address of your department with "/user" at the end.
Example - https://mystfx.ca/english/user


Login as Website Admin

Log in with the username and password provided by IT Services.


Open department homepage

Click on the home symbol to open the department home page.

Add content

Click on Content - Add content - Basic page in the Admin menu.


Create Basic page



A new window opens to create a basic page.


Add Title



Enter the page Title.


Add banner image

This field is used to upload a main image that will be placed above the page title as a banner image. 
The image will be re-sized to fit the space (1140px x 400px), however, it is recommended the images be sized using editing software prior to upload to avoid distortions.
1. Click Browse, navigate to the folder containing the image and select the required image.
2. Click Upload.
3. Check this if you want the image to be displayed as the banner image.
4. Check this if you want the image to be promoted on the slideshow on the main homepage.


Remove banner image


Click on Remove to remove or replace the image as needed.


Add Teaser text

Add text if you want it to be displayed in the shaded region of the slideshow image.


Add Image to the webpage

Add any images that you want to attach or upload on the webpage.
1. Click Browse, navigate to the folder containing the image and select the required image.
2. Click Upload.


Attach an Image: Set Image Properties

1. Click on the Insert/Edit Image icon. This will open the Image Properties form.
2. Insert the URL from the previous step

Remove the first section of the url you pasted (eg. mystfx.ca/facilities-management/) and just keep /sites....

3. Adjust the Width and Height as needed
4. Select Alignment for the image.


Add a file to the webpage

Add any files such as a pdf or doc, you want to attach or upload on the webpage.
1. Click Browse, navigate to the folder containing the file and select the required file.
2. Click Upload.

1. Right click on the file name
2. Select Copy Link Address (this will vary depending on what browser you use)


Add content to the webpage

1. Enter text, images or links as content on the webpage.
2. Ensure that Full HTML is selected for images, tables, etc. as the Text format.

The Enter key will create a new paragraph. (Hold the Shift key and press Enter to break a line in the same paragraph.)

If transferring text from an external editor (such as Microsoft Office Word) be sure to copy as plain text or the styles and fonts captured may create undesirable results.

Hovering over the editor icons will display their purpose.


Add a link

1. Enter and highlight the link text in the Body
2. Click on the Insert/Edit Link icon. Leave the Link Type as URL.
3. Enter URL, this may be a website or a file (pdf, doc, etc...) using the URL from the Attach a File: Attachment settings step above.

If adding a file, it is recommended to do step 4. If it is link to an external website, skip step 4.
4. Go to the start of the url pasted in the URL field and remove the first section that is your website url (eg. mystfx.ca/facilities-management/). Leave from sites....... on.


Add a link: Set target

To change how the linked file or url will open, select the Target tab and set to the desired behavior (eg. New Window (_blank) is recommended).
Click OK


Add an email link

This adds a link that will work with a visitor's email client (if it is set up) to compose an email message.
1. Enter and highlight the link text.
2. Click on the Insert/Edit Link icon.
3. Set the link type to E-mail.
4. Enter the email address here. The subject and body may be pre-entered here.
5. Click OK.


Menu Settings

1. Click Menu settings.
2. Check Provide a menu link to add an item to the Department menu.
3. Add a Menu link title, (this is the text that will appear in the navigation menu on the right side of the sites pages).
4. Add a Description if needed (shows when hovering over the menu link).
5. Select the Parent item (whether this should be in the top level (Department) or fall under another menu item as a child, for example, Students).
This can all be changed at any time. As a rule of thumb, the depth should be a maximum of three.
6. Leave Weight as it. Adjust the placement of the menu item in the Menus section (see Working with Menus).


URL path settings

1. Click URL path settings.
2. Generate automtic URL alias is checked by default. This usually pulls some variation of the page title. To change the automatic generated url, uncheck the checkbox and enter another in the URL alias field. Using hypens between words is recommended.

By default, Drupal gives pages a URL like www.example.ca/node/1. Using the URL path settings this can be set to more friendly path like www.example.ca/about. 


Preview the new page

Click Preview to preview the page before publishing.


Save the new page

Click Save to create the page.
