Where do I start to learn about digital signage?

See the article "Getting Started With Digital Signage".

Who controls the content displayed on screens?

Each department must select a primary and secondary sign owner that manages content displayed on the screens. The requesting department is expected to dedicate resources to learn the system through self-service training, create and update content, and manage users within the system for their department.

What displays does IT Services support?

IT Services supports all displays purchased through the Digital Signage Install & Setup service. As part of this service, we ensure that high quality commercial grade displays are used to provide the best possible experience. IT Services does not support any other displays or hardware purchased outside of this service.

Why can't I use any TV from Best Buy/ Walmart/ Amazon?

While the initial purchase cost is lower, consumer grade televisions (displays) do not last as long, nor does the warranty cover using the display as a digital sign. Consumer displays used for constant usage such as digital signage will often burn out much faster (sometimes in as little as 3 months), resulting in higher costs over the long term due to having to be frequently replaced.

What is a "Commercial" grade display?

A commercial display differs from consumer displays in the following ways:

  • Made to be on for the majority of the day (15+ hours)
  • Reduces screen 'burn in' where an image left on the screen is etched into the display
  • Better warranty that lasts years; many consumer displays only last 90 days
  • Typically lasts much longer for digital signage versus consumer displays

IT Services has selected preferred makes and models of displays for use as digital signage at St FX; for more information, please submit a request to the Digital Signage Install & Setup service.
