Computer and smartphone surfaces are frequently touched and possess a high chance of transmitting viruses and bacteria. It has been determined that the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains in an infectious state on cardboard surfaces for 24 hours and plastic / stainless steel surfaces for up to 3 days. Follow the following guidelines to clean technological equipment you use, and stay safe.
Items needed:
- Lint-free cloth
- Microfibre cloth
- Screen cleaner or Alcohol
- All-purpose cleaner or dilute soap and water
Don't use aerosol sprays, bleaches, or abrasives. Don't get moisture into any openings.
1. Ensure that your device is turned off.
2. Start with spraying a lint-free cloth with the all-purpose cleaner or dilute soap and water. Do not spray any cleaner directly onto your computer screen or keys.
3. Gently clean the keyboard keys in a circular motion to remove dirt. Pay close attention to the 'Space' and 'Enter' keys as they are frequently used. Wipe down your mouse and the surface around your mouse.
4. Screens should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol (70 percent) solution or screen cleaner and a soft towel. Spray cleaner onto a microfibre cloth and gently clean the screen of dust and finger prints.
5. To disinfect your laptop, used a wrung out disinfecting wipe to gently clean the entire keyboard and track pad
6. Let the alcohol/disinfectant dry out before turning on your device
