Welcome to StFX - Student Guide

Your StFX Accounts

Understanding your accounts can be confusing. At StFX you have two sets of credentials, your student ID number and pin and your StFX user name and password. These are two separate accounts and are not interchangeable.

Your Student ID Number and PIN

Your 10 digit Student ID and 6 digit PIN allow you to access Banner Self Service, where you register and view marks, where you can access student info such as class schedules. This  system is protected through portal.stfx.ca Portal requires you to log in using your StFX user name credentials below so both sets of credentials are required for access. Think of Banner and myData as houses in a gated community called the portal, to get into the community you need access to the gate, which is portal.stfx.ca and this uses your StFX user name and password, your student ID number and PIN are the house keys for banner and your StFX user name and password are the keys for myData.

How to Access myData and Banner

Your StFX User name (WebFX ID) and password

Your StFX user name, often referred to as WebFX ID, will be in the format of x2022abc. Your user name is also your StFX email, x2022abc@stfx.ca. Your password is 12 characters long, a combination of letters and numbers in original. These credentials are used for entry into StFX technology services such as;

If you do not know your StFX password, or wish to change your password to be easily remembered, head over to our MyPassword Service.

MyLabApps

MyLabApps may be required for some courses, you can access them at mylabapps.stfx.ca and use your STFX user name and password to log in. There are a few student computer labs on campus where you can access computers if needed.

Beauceron Security

This is a security platform we use at StFX where students can learn more about phishing and fraudulent emails and websites. Students can log in using their StFX username and password and report any potential phishing attempts. They offer surveys, courses and cirriculums that students can complete as a way to earn certificates and rewards.

Microsoft Office 365

Outlook

This is the platform for your StFX email (x2022abc@stfx.ca). It is where most communication happens from university officials, professors and other students.

Teams

Teams is a useful messaging platform, especially when it comes to group projects. you can create a group chat on teams by clicking the 'new chat' button and entering all group members full names in. Here, you can send messages, share files, and make video calls.

Downloading Office 365 Apps

-Log into your Office 365 account using your StFX email and password

-In the top left corner there will be a button that says 'install office'

-using the drop down menu, click 'Office 365 Apps' and follow the prompts

Technology Recommendations

Due to COVID-19 there will not be general access computer labs on campus. It's imperative that you have your own device if you need to access StFX services and lab applications. Two most popular options for students are Windows or Mac, ultimately it comes down to personal preference. Some students like the connectivity MacBooks offer with their iPhones/iPads/iPods. While others like the familiarity of a Windows laptop. Both systems easily connect to Wi-Fi, the on-campus printers, classroom technology and more. We do not recommend Chrome books to students as some classroom-based applications that do not run as smoothly on Chrome books.

Living in Residence? If you are bringing your own printer ensure it can be connected via a cable. Wireless printers are not permitted on our residence Wi-Fi, they cause traffic jams and reduce the network quality for those around you.
