General Information - Finding your IP Address - macOS

 

What is an IP address?

• An IP address is your computer's "address" on the Internet.
• Every computer in the world that is connected to the Internet has an IP address.
• Here at StFX, knowing what your computer's IP address is helps us at the IT Services fix your network issues quicker.
• StFX IP addresses usually look something like this: 141.109.XXX.XX

 

Instructions:

• Open System Settings by either launching the app, or clicking the Apple logo  in the top left corner, and selecting System Settings

• Select the Network tab on the left side scroll menu

 

• If you are using Ethernet to connect to the network, select the LAN option, and you will be able to see your IP Address on the right

• If you are using a wireless connection, select Wi-Fi, and then select Details beside your connected network

• Select TCP/IP in the menu on the left, and you will see your IP Address displayed on the right
