General Information - Finding your IP Address - macOS

 

Introduction

What is an IP address?

• An IP address is your computer's "address" on the Internet.
• Every computer in the world that is connected to the Internet has an IP address.
• Here at StFX, knowing what your computer's IP address is helps us at the IT Services fix your network issues more quickly.
• StFX IP addresses usually look something like this: 141.109.XXX.XX

Instructions for Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)

• In Finder, click on the Apple menu in the top left-hand corner.

• Select System Preferences

• Alternatively, select the System Preferences icon in the Dock.

 

• Select Network

 

• In the left-hand pane select how you are currently connected to the Internet –in this case it is an AirPort (wireless) connection.

• In the right-hand pane your IP address will be displayed (e.g. 141.109.96.243).

 

• If you are connected to the Internet via an Ethernet connection, select that connection instead.

• Your IP address will be displayed in the right-hand pane.
