Moving Files to OneDrive

Onedrive Restrictions.

One drive quotas are 1TB
Files naming is important- One drive will not upload file or folders with the following characters - ~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }.
Maximum File Size 100GB
The entire path, including the file name, must contain fewer than 400 characters

  1. Open your File Explorer (typically found in the bottom left of your computer screen):
  2. Find your H: drive and double click to open it
  3. To transfer the files out of your H Drive, click the first file folder, holding down SHIFT, click the last file folder that you want to move:
  4. Right Click and select Copy
  5. Scroll along the left navigation window to find your OneDrive Folder
  6. Click on the empty space in the One Drive, right click and choose PASTE:
  7. The files from the H drive will now paste in your OneDrive. NOTE: if you are pasting many files, it may take a few minutes.
  8. Once the files are in OneDrive, the status will show as a cloud or a green outlined check mark:

The cloud means that the document is ONLY available on the cloud. The green outlined check means that the file is on the OneDrive AND your computer. The two ‘recycling’ arrows means that the file is syncing to the OneDrive. The red X means that syncing is not occurring, probably the result of loss of WiFi.

  1. To move a file to ONLY the OneDrive, right click on the file, choose Free Up Space. The symbol will change to a blue cloud. This means that the file will be eliminated from your computer but WILL REMAIN on OneDrive. To get it back on your computer, just click on the file and the blue cloud symbol will change to a green outlined circle.
