Uploading Files (Video) to OneDrive

OneDrive is an online hard drive for you to access from anywhere. It also has the ability to act as an online media player with auto creation of closed captioning and translation. This will go over managing video and how to share for classes.

Video for Uploading video file to OneDrive:

Instructions

When you have files on your computer:

  1. Open OneDrive App by going to StFX M365 to find the OneDrive app online.
  2. In the left column of OneDrive select My Files.
  3. Select a folder or click on the New button to create a new folder.
  4. Find the files on your computer and select them.
  5. Drag and drop the files onto the OneDrive folder. Wait for the upload to finish before closing that tab.
  6. Click on a video file to see how the video will play back.
  7. To share the file, there are a couple of options.
    • Click on Share, a pop up menu should appear. Option one is to add everyone to each file you have. This may not be ideal for a class and changing it from term to term.
    • Click on Share, a pop up menu will appear. On the Copy Link button in lower right of menu, there is a cogwheel. Click the Cogwheel.
      • Anyone with link - expires after 6 months. It can be renewed using "manage access" when right clicking file.
      • People in St Francis Xavier - This does not expire but people need to have a stfx login to view. This works well for Moodle courses since students need to log into Moodle with M365.
    • While sharing there are options for can view, can edit, and can't download. Pick the appropriate one. There is also an option to add expiry.
  8. Click apply and then copy the link.
  9. Paste the link in the Moodle course using a URL resource, or Text Media box.

Students in course should now have access to watch the video or powerpoint with the video link. The video and/or PowerPoint can play directly in OneDrive.
