Eduroam Wi-Fi Setup - Windows

Note: On Campus, StFX users should be connecting to the WebFX network while on campus to ensure full access to local network services.

Eduroam or education roaming, provides roaming wireless network access for students, staff and faculty at partner institutions. Users are able to authenticate using the same credentials as they would at their home institution or office.

This guide will help you set up a Windows computer or tablet to our eduroam network. The simplest method is to click on the WiFi symbol on the bottom right of the taskbar, select eduroam, and connect. However, challenges may occur and you may need to add the wireless network manually.

Start by clicking on the Start button on the bottom left of your screen.

Then, when the start menu opens, begin to type 'Control Panel' and a search will begin. Once Control Panel is the top option, you can click it.

Once Control Panel is open, locate the search bar at the top right of the screen, and type 'set up wireless'. This should perform another search, with results looking like those above. Click on the 'Set up a connection or network' link.

When the window above appears, select the 'Manually connect to a wireless network' option, and click Next.

Set the following settings:
1) Network name: eduroam
2) Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
3) Encryption type: AES

Then click Next.

On the next screen, click on the 'Change connection settings' option.

On the settings page, click on 'Advanced settings' as shown above.

Do the following:
1) Tick the 'Specify authentication mode:' box
2) Switch the authentication mode to 'User authentication'
3) Click on the 'Save credentials' button.

When the Windows Security box opens, type in your StFX username and password. *This password is not your 6-digit PIN!
For students, your username is of the form of x2017abc.
For faculty and staff, your username is of the form of jsmith.

After you've typed in your information, click OK on this box, followed by another OK on the Advanced Settings page.

Click on the 'Settings' button.

1) Untick 'Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate'
2) Click on the 'Configure...' button

Untick 'Automatically use my Windows logon name and password' and click OK.

Click OK once again on the Protected PEAP Settings, and once more on the Network Settings page to finish the process. Your wireless connection should begin to connect.
