Importing a Moodle Course

Tags Moodle LMS

At the beginning of each semester instructors will see empty courses on their Moodle home page. Many instructors choose to move content from year to year, rather than building the same course multiple times. Once content is moved from a previous course, edits can be made to update the content for the current semester.

1. Log into Moodle using your webFX Username and Password

Navigate to moodle.stfx.ca in your web browser.

2. Identify the Course you would like to Import

The first page that opens after log in is your Dashboard. This is a list of all the courses you are enrolled in as an instructor or as a student.

3. In this example, I will move the content from "Moodle Tutorial- Sandbox" to "Sandbox". My previous course link is still blue because it is accessible to students.
* Make note of the old course name and number - you will need this in the following steps.

Open your New Course (The empty course shell) and click Import from the gear icon on the top right of your page.

4. In the search field, enter the full name of the course you want to import from:

Click search (Be sure to enter the course exactly as it appears on your Course Overview page).

5. Select the course and click continue

6. Select the items to import
Select Next

7. Review Content selected and choose Perform Import

Depending on the size of your course, this could take several minutes. When completed, click Continue

8. This page will refresh, showing the imported content. Review your course to ensure all content was moved correctly.
