Moodle Upgrade to 4.0

On December 20, between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm EST, Moodle will undergo a significant upgrade, including the implementation of essential security patches, transitioning from version 3.11 to version 4.1. During this scheduled upgrade window, Moodle services will be temporarily unavailable. Please note that while Moodle is being upgraded, no loss of data will occur – class enrolments, course materials, and grades will be preserved.

The user interface in Moodle 4.1 exhibits some changes compared to Moodle 3.11. For your convenience,provided below is a detailed list of the interface changes within Moodle, along with the official press release pertaining to this upgrade.

Furthermore, should any of you wish to test the new Moodle version before its official deployment, please email  (Matea Drljepan) and she will enroll you in your staging environment.

Moodle changes for faculty, and administrators:

Menu

Collapsible course menu on Moodle 3.0 which includes Participants, Badges, Grades and course settings.   

Has been replaced by a horizontal menu along the top of the course. Only Course sections are now available along the collapsible course menu. 

Edit mode  

Toggle on or off edit mode instead of clicking ‘Turn Editing On’. 

Blocks and drawers

Right side column for blocks is now pulled open/closed via small tab in upper right, and collapsed with an X icon.

Rubric  

The rubric can now be found in Grade> Grading Method > Rubric when setting up your assignment.  

Course navigation 

Course navigation has now moved to the right of the top page.
