Environment: Windows KX User
Purpose: Show steps as to how to set up shortcut for KX
You Can Create Desktop Shortcuts for KX by Doing the Following Steps.
You can access different environments by changing the file explorer path.
Live: \\kate\kinetic\KX_Live
Testing: \\kate\kinetic\Kx_Testing
Step 1: Connect to VPN
Connect to the STFX VPN using forticlient.
If you do not have VPN setup on your pc please follow the steps in this article: https://stfx.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1764/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=19545
Step 2: Open File Explorer
Along the taskbar at the bottom of the screen you may have an icon that looks like a folder, if this is on your taskbar you can Click it to open file explorer.
If this file icon is not on your taskbar you can type in the Search field File Explorer, from here Click on the file explorer icon to open it.
Step 3: Go to the KX Shared Folder Using File Explorer
Click the search bar at the top of the file explorer window. In this field type: \\kate\kinetic\KX_Live
Important: Once in the next step do not move, edit or cut any of the files found in this location as it will cause issues with the system for other users, you will only do a copy.
Step 4: Copy KX Shortcut
Now that you are in this folder find the Icon that says KX_Live, your icon may not contain the .exe at the end of the name.
Right Click on this and then select Copy, do not cut or change this file or other items in this folder.
Step 5: Create a KX Folder on your Desktop
1. Right Click your desktop
2. Highlight "New"
3. Left Click "Folder"
Step 6: Paste Shortcut
Open your newly created folder and Right Click in an open spot, then select Paste to paste the new kx shortcut into this folder
Step 7: Copy Language Files
Go back into the file explorer window that you opened which contained the new KX shortcut on the KX server.
Highlight all of the language files with the extensions of .aff and .dic, Right Click on this and then select Copy,
Name of Language Files you are copying:
en_AU.aff
en_AU.dic
en_CA.aff
en_CA.dic
en_GB.aff
en_GB.dic
en_US.aff
en_US.dic
Do not cut or change these files or other items in this folder.
Note: There should be 8 language files total
Step 8: Paste Language Files to the Same Newly Created Folder on your Desktop
Open your newly created folder where you pasted the new KX shortcut and Right Click in an open spot, from here select Paste
Close the file explorer window you had open which connected to the KX server to get the shortcut and language files.
You should now be able to run the KX application using the new shortcut in the new folder that you created on your desktop.
Optional: Rename folder and Shortcut
Optional:
If you would like to change the name of the newly created shortcut or folder on your PC's Desktop Right Click the new shortcut or folder you created and select Rename then edit the shortcut's or folder's name.
Additional note:
It is likely that the application will need to copy over temporary files to your machine to function properly, this can take a while but the application will be ready to use once this is complete.
