Environment: StFX Student on Mac or Windows
Purpose: How to set up and use Respondus
Student expectations:
1. Please make sure that you have:
a. Downloaded the program (http://goo.gl/6kdUUE)
b. Installed the program
i. The Respondus site should recognize your laptop’s operating system – Windows or Mac OS
ii. Respondus will work with Windows 7 or Windows 10
iii. Mac OS– you need to be running AT LEAST version 10.10 which is YOSEMITE
c. Please note: The Mac OS needs more modifications than the Window OS
i. System Preferences – Sharing – Extensions – toggle off everything
d. When install has completed, you should now have a Lockdown browser icon residing on your desktop.
2. Make sure your device is completely charged prior to the testing time!
If necessary:
3. RESTART your computer
4. Shut down ALL programs. For PC users, this is Control+alt+Delete, for Mac users this is Command+option+esc
a. Only one active application should be running – the Respondus Lockdown Browser!
i. Check the ‘task bar’
1. Windows – will see what applications are open via icon
2. Mac – the ‘dot’ under the icon indicates that program is active
5. iPad users – make sure to UPDATE to the most recent version of the Respondus app
During course of writing the quiz/exam:
• In a situation where the computer appears to “Freeze Up” –
o Do a REFRESH on the browser
• In other instances, close the browser – enter a reason why before exiting and then bring RLB back up
o you should pick up where you left off once you re-enter using the Respondus Browser
