What is this service?
Most users find it convenient to use their cell phone for MFA but we realize this solution will not work for everyone. If you don’t have a mobile device or are unable to use one for MFA, using a hardware token is the alternative. A hardware token is a small device that displays the 6-digit codes for logging into MFA. Low vision options are available.
Why is it useful?
Multi-Factor Authentication consists of two parts, something you know - your stfx password, & something your have - a mobile device or a hardware token. A hardware token will be issued to Staff and Faculty (including retired Faculty) unable to use a mobile device for Multi-Factor Authentication.
One hardware token can be used for both Microsoft 365 MFA and VPN MFA
How do I request this service?
Request a Hardware Token by clicking on Request a Hardware Token button in the upper left and complete the form.
Who can access this service
*Information for Student Hardware Tokens will be posted at a later date.
Where ever possible, hardware token users should also configure a phone call number as backup method of Microsoft 365 MFA.
