Wireless Gaming & Streaming Device Registration

What is this service?

If the device has an Ethernet port IT Services recommends utilizing the wired network for Internet connection. The wired network is the fastest and most reliable network for all gaming and streaming systems. Each residence room is equipped with the working jack. Students should have their own Ethernet/network cables which can be purchased at the campus store.

If an Ethernet port is not a feature of the device and the device is WPA 2 capable the student can submit the device’s MAC address through the webform to gain access to the webfx_devices wireless network.

Unsupported devices include but are not limited to:

  • Wireless printers
  • Routers
  • Some streaming devices

Gaming consoles and streaming devices such as Apple TV must connect to the St FX network using a static (unchanging) Internet Protocol (IP) address. Students, Faculty, and Staff may request a static IP to ensure their devices have the network connectivity they require.

Why is it useful?

Without a static IP, gaming consoles and streaming devices cannot connect to the network and function as expected.
